Highland Meadows Neighborhood Association

Our community lies on the eastern-most edge of the Lake Highlands area of Dallas. Our 1390 homes are bordered by Jupiter Road on the east, Plano Road on the west, Northwest Highway on the south, and Walnut Hill/LBJ Freeway on the north. Seventeen subdivisions make up our large neighborhood. The newest, Haven Creek Court off Plano Road, was developed in 2003. The oldest homes were built in the early 1950s, replacing open fields and rolling meadows. Some of our street names reflect this previous, more pastoral era: Rolling Rock, Meadowcliff, Longmeadow, Hayfield, and Quail Run, to name a few. Our name, Highland Meadows, is reminiscent of a time not so long ago when cotton grew here and cattle roamed the open pastureland.

A winding stream makes its way through our neighborhood, and large sycamores and native live oaks and pecan trees add their touch of beauty. The stream is an offshoot of nearby White Rock Lake's tributary, the Dixon Branch. Known to residents as "the creek," this small brook twists and winds through our neighborhood and provides a habitat for many birds and common species of wildlife such as raccoons and opossums. It is also a home for the atypical urban bobcats and coyotes that sometimes visit our neighborhood streets, mostly during the nighttime hours.

We are also served by two school districts, Richardson ISD and Dallas ISD. The DISD Highland Meadows Elementary School opened its doors in the midst of our neighborhood at 8939 Whitewing in August 2004. This state-of-the-art school has an 800-student capacity. The Highlander School, a highly respected private school for children ages three through grade six, was established in 1966 and is also located within our boundaries on Plano Road.
